At Vienna Coffee Company, we believe that great coffee is an adventure. Our journey began in Maryville, Tennessee, in 2002 with a single popcorn maker and a dream. Today, we are an award-winning specialty coffee roaster proudly serving East Tennessee and beyond with sustainably sourced, expertly roasted craft coffee.

Founded by John Clark, a native of East Tennessee and former chemical engineer, Vienna Coffee Company was born out of a love for great coffee and the desire to bring specialty-grade beans to his hometown. His journey, from home roasting in a kitchen, to building Blount County’s first local coffee roastery, embodies the pioneering spirit that drives our team every day.

From Garage to Roastery

What began with the now-iconic red roaster in John’s garage soon became a full-fledged business. In 2002, Vienna Coffee Company officially launched, inspired by the culture of the classic Viennese coffeehouses of Austria. As demand grew, so did our reach, expanding from local kitchens to retailers and coffee shops across East Tennessee.

Vienna Coffee House: Maryville’s Living Room

In 2010, Vienna Coffee House opened its doors in the building we still call home today. Located near Maryville College and the local Farmer’s Market, it has become a welcoming hub for locals, students, creatives, and professionals alike. With homemade pastries, exceptional coffee, and beautiful views of Pistol Creek, it’s no wonder a local pastor once called it “Maryville’s Living Room.”

Our Growth

From those first batches of coffee roasted in a kitchen with a popcorn popper, to the bustling roastery and coffee house we are today, our growth has always been rooted in one thing: community. We’ve learned that people in Maryville, and well beyond, care deeply about more than just a good cup of coffee. They care about where it comes from, how it’s made, and the people behind it. The demand for thoughtfully sourced, carefully crafted coffee has continued to grow, and it’s been our incredible customers, neighbors, and friends who have made this journey possible. We’re proud of how far we’ve come, but we’re even more excited about where we’re headed. With each cup we serve, we’re building something bigger, a space for connection, learning, and a shared love of truly great coffee.

Sustainability & Responsible Sourcing

At Vienna Coffee Company, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, but rather a commitment we carry through every part of our work, from sourcing to roasting to the final pour. We believe our responsibility begins with the farmers who grow our beans and extends all the way to the communities we serve. That’s why we intentionally source coffees that support small, relationship-based farms and uphold fair, ethical, and environmentally responsible practices. In 2023, we took the step to install solar panels on the roof, taking our sustainability journey to the next level by powering our entire Roastery and Coffee House with solar energy. Our team is always exploring new ways to reduce waste, reuse materials, and recycle with purpose, and we invite our community to partner with us in those efforts. Whether it’s bringing your own mug, repurposing coffee chaff for your garden, or returning your empty coffee bags for recycling , together we can brew a better, more sustainable future.
